compounding (def):

The art and science of combining drugs or mixing drugs to create a medication tailored to the needs of an individual patient.

Why we offer a compounding service

Have you ever needed a particular medication, supplement or formulation that you cannot find in the Australian market? Or maybe you or your child had a medication that you were unable to swallow or had an undesirable flavour?

The most common answer to this question is yes. Patients are constantly running into problems because they are unable to get the treatment they need. There are many formulations and combinations of medications that aren’t available on the market.

The solution to this problem is to tailor make treatment to suit the individual’s needs. You wouldn’t buy a pair of shoes that didn’t quite fit so you shouldn’t be expected to take medications that don’t quite fit your needs either?

We decided the best way to fix this issue was to make the formulations ourselves and give our clients exactly what they needed.

Step 1 – Determine if you Require a Script

Some products don’t require a prescription. These would generally be supplements, vitamins or cosmetic creams. For most other medications we will require a prescription. Many of our local doctors are aware of our compounding facilities and so may have already written you a specific compounding prescription. See our FAQs for specific scenarios.

Step 2 – Request a Quote From Our Compounding Team

Phone, email or request a quote below for your item. If you have a prescription please send a copy of it through to us so we can give you the most accurate pricing. You can skip this step if we have already compounded the item for you before.

Step 3 – Place Your Order

You can place your order via email or in person. If you have a prescription item, a copy of the script will be required. You can simply take a photo and email to us. Then bring the original copy in when you collect your item. Please note we generally require at least 48 hours notice.

Step 4 – Collect Your Item

You will receive a phone call or text message when your item is ready for collection. This will usually be within 48 hours of placing the order. We are able to post you your order if you live remotely or are unable to come in store for collection. Please note delivery time may take up to 7 to 10 working days.

FAQs

I already have a prescription but I want the dosage form changed.  Do I require a new prescription?

For patients who would like to change the dosage form for a current prescription (e.g if you would like to change a tablet form into a liquid form) you can speak with our compounding pharmacist. They will look at your script and then can discuss with your doctor on your behalf about changing the formulation.

I am currently taking an over the counter product but would like it changed into a capsule. Do I require a script for this?

No, you don’t need a script. Many of our patients are taking herbal or mineral mixtures but find them not very palatable. We do not require a script to change the dosage form for these as they were original bought over the counter without a script.

I have some essential oils and would like these put into capsules. Can you do this?

Yes, we can. We will need to look at your required dosage and ensure it is within safe limits. We can then formulate it into either a capsule, cream or ointment depending on what you need.

I would like to get a bioidentical hormone treatment tailor made for me. Do I need to see the doctor first?

Yes, you are required to see your doctor to discuss your specific condition. They will then be required to write you a prescription with the formula combination, dosage type (trouche, cream or pessary), the concentration and dosage instructions.

Have you made Bioidentical Hormones before?

We have made many bioidentical hormone treatments for patients and are specifically trained in this area. Our pharmacists have undertaken further specialist training to be able to safely compound these products.

How do you ensure safety and quality assurance?

Our compounded medications are made from highest grade pharmaceutical chemicals (USP certified) and sourced from TGA approved laboratories. Our compounding Pharmacists are experienced and have completed specific post graduate training to have the ability and skills to tailor and prepare your medications.
